Prerequisite Course

What is a prerequisite course?

A prerequisite course is a class that must be completed before the subsequent class may be taken. This is usually to ensure that students are prepared for more advanced concepts covered in the next higher level of learning (e.g., pre-calculus before calculus, or psychology 101 before taking an upper-division psychology).

Prerequisite courses can also apply on both ends of education: For example, first year writing before second year English; first semester biology lab classes with no credit towards graduation requirements cannot count as any prerequisite courses toward future science majors.
